The Perfect Space Located in the Heart of Tribeca

Posted in Friends of On the Square, On the Square Productions News on October 27, 2010 by On the Square Productions

Hey NY Theatre-goers! Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past year and a half or so, you’ve heard of Space on White, one of the new kids on the block of New York rehearsal spaces. On the Square has had the pleasure of working with them several times now, and one thing that sets them apart from other studios, is their support of the independent theatre artists.

Located at 81 White St., it’s just down the street from The Flea Theater and Walker Space, a hot bed for independent theatre artists like OTSP. Direct from their website:

Space on White is a socially conscious space for artists located in Tribeca, New York City. Artists or organizations can rent out studios that cater to acting, music, and dance rehearsal. Our great energy and environment encourages collaboration and growth for artists and their audiences. The open, spacious designs of the spaces act as blank canvases that are committed to the artist first and foremost

Perhaps you remember the our YouTube video for the Race for Space campaign? Space on White reached out to thousands of independent theatre companies, offering free rehearsal space to anyone the folks who made the most creative video. On the Square entered and received over 2700 hits thanks to our incredible network. In addition to an art gallery, acting classes with Larry Singer, Space on White also offers an artist residency program which helps with marketing, rehearsal space, and other resources.

On the Square will be rehearsing at Space on White for Monroe, Illinois: Over Here/Townie, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with them!

OTSP Presents Monroe, Illinois: Over Here/Townie

Posted in Mainstage, On the Square Productions News, OTSP Buzz, Production Announcements on October 26, 2010 by On the Square Productions

Well it’s official- our fall project at The Flea Theater is in full swing. Come this December 2010, On the Square Productions will present the World Premiere Monroe, Illinois: Over Here/Townie by Aaron Wigdor Levy.

We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Aaron or The Flea Theater. Over Here and Townie are written as two separate one acts that both deal with themes of middle America. Both plays are set in fictional, working class town of Monroe, Illinois. Over Here revolves around a widowed matriarch, Patty, and her two children, Nora and Danny, all of whom are coping with the death of their husband/father who was killed in Iraq. Townie tells the story of one Woman through 30 years of her life, from her engagement to her marriage, the birth of her children, infidelity, and divorce.

Cyrilla Baer, Rachel McPhee, Doug Roland, and Rebecca Hackett star.

Performances run December 8th-December 21st at The Flea Theater, located at 41 White Street. Details will be announced on their website soon, and we’ll be sure and relay ticket info.

Please also consider donating to our Kickstarter campaign! Right now, we are $803 on our way to our $2000 goal. Every little bit helps!

The beginnings of the relationship between the French Romantic painter Eugène Delacroix and his distant cousin, Joséphine de Lavallette, baroness de Forget. It is Paris in the 1830’s. The play is structured on the movements of a popular set dance of the early 19th century, the quadrille. Partners switch with grace but also with heart-breaking consquences. It is the Romantic dilemma that what most inspires us has the capability of destroying us. LA CHASSE is an exploration of Art, civilized society and our supressed animal natures. (two acts) *Los Angeles Drama-Logue Award for New Play.

Can You Spare for the Square?

Posted in Fundraising, On the Square Productions News on October 15, 2010 by On the Square Productions

On the Square launched Operation Fundraiser 2010 with a little help from Kickstarter, a website that helps you fundraise and share your progress with everyone. As you know we have two projects coming up Monroe, Illinois: Over Here/Townie by Aaron Wigdor Levy this December, and In Your Image in February by Rob Benson.

We need your help though! We’ve set a fundraising goal of $2000. You can pledge any amount you’d like from $1-$1000. There’s also awards incentives including free tickets, free entries into our next raffle, and our OTSP merch, so be sure and check out our page here! It may sound cliche, but truly every little bit helps. Sometimes $10 can buy an hour of rehearsal space!

It’s not even the end of Day 1 yet, and we’ve got $75, so we’re off to a great start!

We would be oh so grateful for anything you dig up from the seat cushions. If you have any further questions, just shoot us an email at!

Well On the Square is about to launch Operation Fundraising 2010, and we wanted to branch out and do something a little different this time around. So, we decided on a Dance Marathon for a independent theatre! $10 in advance here or at the door goes to support On the Square Productions! In order to kick off this event however, we needed a little help from our friends at Studio 45ifth, an event planning company based out of NYC. They’ve got THREE DJ’s lined up to keep the party going. There will be a raffle, and other great prizes for those who last the longest on the dance floor!
